Summersville, WV, is geared for outdoor adventures with loads of attractions and activities. Enjoy camping on the shores of the 2,800-acre Summersville Lake, the largest lake in West Virginia. Here you can fish, swim scuba dive, water ski, kayak, canoe, and explore the surrounding woods on miles and miles of hiking and biking trails.

1. Mountain Lake Campground

The ultimate lakeside camp experience is right here, with four separate RV and tent areas to choose from. You can pick a site under the trees with water, electricity, your own picnic table, and a fire pit. There is a tiled restroom, laundry, basketball court, a volleyball net, and a playground. You can stay over in the campground with a beach or one in the woods with sites that are primitive or ones with water and electricity.

If you want to enjoy views of the lake and the marina, there is an area with 20, 30, and 50 amp hookups. At some sites, you can even tie your boat in front of your campsite. The campground offers boat mooring and storage, a well-stocked store, and a pizza and ice cream shop with delicious offerings. The campground is dog friendly and even has a beach, especially for your four-legged friends.

2. Battle Run Campground

The beautiful waterfront campground is on the shores of Summersville Lake. It’s a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts and campers to enjoy birding, fishing, swimming, boating, water skiing, scuba diving, and miles of trails around the lake.

The campground has 110 campsites in the shade of mature trees with water and electricity, laundry facilities, a dump station, restrooms with showers, and a playground. There is a boat ramp and a fishing dock. You can also hike to a secluded primitive campground with seven tent sites.

3. Summersville Lake Retreat and Lighthouse

Here you can rough pitch your tent and sleep under the stars, enjoy full-service RV sites, or stay in a luxury cabin in the forest on the shores of Summersville Lake. The campsite has pull-through sites for small to big rigs with electricity, water, and WiFi, and all the modern facilities for a comfortable stay.

The cabins are fully equipped and have outdoor hot tubs. They have a range of rental watercraft to enjoy the lake, ping pong, horseshoes, cornhole, and a playground. You can climb the 122 steps to the top of the lighthouse, the only working one in West Virginia with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding area.

4. WV Nazarene Camp Music Park

The campground offers campers easy access to hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and hunting. It is also situated close to attractions such as New River Gorge Bridge, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. There are 250 partial and full-hookup sites, of which 150 are pull-through, restrooms with hot showers, and a laundry. You can also bring your pooch along.
